TWO Barmulloch pals have been doing their part for kids across the West of Scotland, with toy bank donations and fundraisers.

Connor McAneny, 20, and Connor Schofield, 22, have spent the past few weeks collecting toys from friends, family and even strangers, all with the aim of helping giving kids a Christmas to celebrate this year.

Connor Schofield said: “I was sitting one night and thinking about all the doom and gloom going on and I thought we had to turn it on its head.

“So I phoned Connor and asked him if he wanted to help out with this idea I had.

“I think after this year especially, it has been such a difficult time for people and this is our way of making sure every kids has a Christmas.”

The boys have collected an amazing amount of toy donation, which have been shared out to toy banks such as Glasgow’s No.1 Baby & Family Support Service, and also have created a fundraiser, which already sits at more than £1700, to help raise money for charities.

Connor McAneny said: “It really hit home when we dropped toys off at Glasgow’s No.1 Baby & Family Support Service because they were telling us about how over the years they have seen more and more people use the service.

“We thought that a fundraiser was a good idea so that people could donate if they could get out to buy toys.

Glasgow Times:

“Once we’ve finished delivering all the toys from the donations we received, we will be  taking the money out of the Go Fund Me page and sharing it between charities across the West of Scotland.”

Both Connors organised the toy bank drive while working full time, with Connor McAneny working as a personal trainer and Connor Schofield working as an electrician.

Connor Schofield said: “It has been hard work and we’re dedicating days we have off on our weekends to getting stuff done.”

Connor McAneny said: “Because my work was on pause for a few weeks with the gyms shut, it was good timing really so that I could spent more time organise things for the donations.

Bank on Us: Govan firm backs Glasgow Times' toy appeal

“It has been busy trying to get everything organised but it’s really nothing when you think about what the toys will mean to the kids.”

The boys backed the Glasgow Times Bank On Us appeal, encouraging others to give what they can to kids in need.

Schofield said: ”The thought of a kid not having a Christmas is heartbreaking and it’s horrible to think how many kids will be in that situation this year.

“I think if you are in a comfortable position and not giving back, then you are missing a trick.”
