LOVED Ann Fotheringham’s article featuring memories from readers on Ella Fitzgerald’s visits to Glasgow (Wednesday).

She was an amazing performer. I remember my sister went to watch her at the Apollo.

I was so jealous and was desperate to go but I was too young at the time.

What a true musical star – some of the acts now could learn a few things from Ella.

TO all those who moan and groan about pubs having to close due to coronavirus restrictions, take a good look at the scenes yet again in London and other English cities with thousands crowded outside pubs in desperation for alcohol without any consideration to others.

No social distancing whatsoever. Health risks? It’s all about me, me, me!

WELL done to the Glasgow Times on the toybank campaign,

It’s heart-warming to think that lots of children will now benefit from this appeal and will have big smiles on their faces when they wake up on Christmas morning.

It makes you realise just how generous people in Glasgow are.

OUR readers had lots to say on the First Minister urging people to stay at home over Christmas and if choosing to form bubbles to keep these as small as possible and limit duration. Here’s a selection of comments from our Facebook page:

CHRISTMAS is family time, so I will be going to my family for dinner as we do every year and so looking forward to it (Scots urged to stay at home this Christmas as warnings issues, Glasgow Times online).

What is life without family and friends? You’re already dead if you live in fear hiding in the house all the time. Go about your own business safely. Merry Christmas to you all.

Helen Macduff

WELL, nothing is open so don’t have much of a choice, but I will be visiting family and having a proper family Christmas day.

Graeme McDonald

I HAVE done everything by the book since March – no 50th birthday, lost my dad suddenly, just stuck to three-week lockdown in order to have a couple of family members on Christmas day.

Now we are urged to stay at home. I’m sorry but I’ll be having my mum and aunt here. I’m not putting it off.

Glasgow Times: First Minister Nicola Sturgeon gives an update on Covid restrictions in the Scottish Parliament

And I’m already on the front line before anyone says about putting a strain on NHS.

Nicola Sturgeon isn’t thinking about how kids are crammed into schools and buses right up until Tuesday when schools are rife. Merry Christmas.

Pamela Borland

I’LL be hosting Christmas dinner again like I always do with my mum and brother coming over. People need to stop shoving their opinion down everyone’s throat when it comes to comments like this!

Cheryl Agnew

UNFORTUNATELY people won’t listen anymore. This whole lockdown went on too long and the public are just normalising it now as every day life and pretty much don’t care.

Gary Jack

THIS whole relaxing the rule over Christmas is a joke.

Allan Kavanagh

THERE’S nowhere to go as the Scottish Government is killing the hospitality trade!

Alan Murray

I’LL still be going ahead with my plans. It’s only advice, not a “law”.

Jennifer Kelly

IT’S going on far too long now. Rules for bubbles are laughable.
