DETAILS on how to recycle your real Christmas tree and festive cards have been announced by East Dunbartonshire Council.

The local authority will be able to dispose of real Christmas trees from Tuesday, January 5 in a skip at the William Patrick Library car park in Kirkintilloch and Mavis Valley Recycling centre in Bishopbriggs.

Joint council leader Andrew Polson urged residents to keep up the good work when it comes to recycling over the festive period.

He said: “ “While a lot of things are likely to be different about this Christmas, we would urge the residents of East Dunbartonshire to keep up their tradition of being great at recycling.

“You can recycle your non-tinsel Christmas cards by placing them in the blue bin and you can take your Christmas tree to one of our recycling sites to ensure that it doesn’t contribute to rubbish going to landfill.”

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody, added: “If you’re unable to take your tree to a recycling point, you can call our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 4510.

“We can arrange for your Christmas tree to be picked up or your garden waste bin emptied, free of charge, between Saturday, January 16 and Saturday, January 23. It might be an unusual Christmas this year but it can still be a green Christmas.”
