AN East Renfrewshire teenager has been held by police in connection with a £50,000 telephone scam.
The youth was arrested at the weekend over claims he had fraudulently duped a local resident into handing over the money a year ago.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We can confirm that an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a report of telephone fraud totalling £50,000.
"The incident took place in the Newton Mearns area of East Renfrewshire in December 2019.
"He is expected to appear at court in due course and further enquiries are ongoing."
Police have also urged people in East Renfrewshire to remain vigilant and not to give out their bank account details to cold callers.
