A BIG-HEARTED youngster has shown the true meaning of Christmas by raising almost £500 for a good cause.

After being inundated with orders when her mum, Lorraine posted about her idea on Facebook, Lucie has now gone on to raise an amazing £468 for food charity Well-Fed.

Lucie, who's favourite subject at school is art, is looking forward to receiving new materials from Santa so that she can raise money with more of her creations.

Glasgow Times:

She said: “It’s kept me busy in lockdown. I like doing painting and I’m going to start making squishies soon.

"There is someone I watch on YouTube who has shown me how to do it.

“Lots of small businesses have donated things like glasses and wooden decorations and I sold them as well.

“I’m hoping to do more fundraising at Easter by making kinder egg holders.”

Lucie’s mum and dad Lorraine and Andrew are very proud of Lucie’s efforts.

Lorraine said: “We try and teach our kids to think about others.Lucie had said she wanted to help the homeless and when she’s older she wants to have her own charity.”

Lucie’s Dad, Andrew said: “A few days after posting about her idea she had over 90 orders. I thought: how will she get through all these orders?

“But she continued to work hard everyday after school, weekends and before and after dancing. Orders were going out and more were coming through.

“People continued to order  and were so kind and donated extra for Lucie to sell and this spurred her on more and more.”

Lucie handed over her efforts to Well-Fed last week.

Christopher Gray, managing director said:“She’s just the most awesome kid. She gave us another 20 keyrings that we sold on. It was all off her own back.

"It was her suggestion, she’s a wee angel. It’s not a small amount of money. It’s going to make such a difference to us.

"At Christmas we do a lot to help struggling families with gifts and vouchers. This will go a massive way to help make people’s Christmas a bit better.

"It’s so inspirational to see kids with that kind of social conscience.”
