GLASGOW comedian and TV presenter Susan Calman has revealed viewers can expect "exactly the same joyous, exciting, wonderful show" for Hogmanay 2020.

Among others, for this year's edition of the BBC show the comedian will be joined by Brian Cox, Karen Gillan, Deacon Blue, Amy McDonald and David Marshall.

Susan said: "For me, speaking to Karen Gillan was a real highlight. I’m a super Doctor Who and Marvel fan and I think she’s simply amazing. She’s done such a lot - she’s an international star.

"Also hearing David Marshall, Scotland’s super goalie, talk about saving the penalty which meant that we finally got through to a major tournament was incredible.

"He was so down-to-earth about it all.  Speaking to the two of them was pretty special actually."

But she restrained herself from singing 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' to avoid "traumatising" him.

"Besides, there are better people to sing that song to him than me to be honest," she said. "I do like having a dance to it though."

Hogmanay 2020 was a first for the long-time TV presenter as it was the first time she hosted a TV show with a virtual audience.

But joining in virtually did not stop the audience from making an effort.

She added: "Every single person made such an effort, they were dressed up and had their Christmas decorations up and it was lovely for all the guests to see a virtual audience.

"It was like having have a live audience but they were in their own houses enjoying their snacks and drinks and joining in the party."

The TV presenter was greeted with success after the launch of her lockdown show 'Socially Distand with Susan Calman'.

"We were suddenly plunged into this different way of life that’d we’d never expected to happen and so filming this made a world of difference," she said reflecting on the hit show.

"It was basically just myself and one guy in my garden with a camera.

"Without a doubt, it’s one of the things I’m most proud of in my career. It was done in such a difficult, strange time, yet it was a still a really good television show and lots of fun to work on."

Susan plans on a quiet Hogmanay but she has a big wish for 2021.

"I want to hug people again," she said.

"Like so many others, I haven’t hugged my mum since March and haven’t really been near anyone apart from my wife and cats.

"I’ll never again take for granted the ability to say to a friend “do you fancy going out for lunch?”.

"A return to normality with hugs would be great in 2021."
