A TANNING salon breaking lockdown rules by opening after Christmas Day was ordered to close by council bosses.

Afterglow had opened its doors to customers after Christmas despite a second lockdown which has seen all non-essential businesses shut up shop after Christmas Day in a bid to counteract the festive relaxation of restrictions.

The Tollcross Road beauty parlour was reported to the council’s environmental health team who said they were satisfied the regulations were now being followed.

Glasgow Times:

A local resident - who did not wish to be named - said they passed by the shop when it was opened and were concerned to see it had not closed.

He said: “It’s not really fair when people can’t get to see their families and then you have this open.”

A spokesman for the council said: “We were in touch with the operator of the business to clarify the late changes to the Covid restrictions that were announced just before Christmas.

“The operator of the business is now compliant with the current regulations and no further action is required.”

In a post to Facebook, the owner of the salon, Iain Cameron, said: “Someone has went out there [sic] way to call environmental health on us, who have called us and explained tanning salons have now been added to the list as we will have to close.”

Glasgow Times:

It is understood the shop is now closed in compliance with the restrictions.

Since December 26 the entirety of mainland Scotland has been under level four restrictions, the toughest measures introduced by the Scottish government to curb the spread of coronavirus.

In level four, all non-essential shops, including beauty parlours, hairdressers, pubs, restaurants and cafes are required to remain closed.
