THIS year 2020 I think everyone like myself is just so glad to see the back of it with all the restrictions people have had to deal with which also affected their Christmas celebrations that they would usually enjoy with family and friends.

It was therefore a lovely surprise when two of my neighbours, Christine and Tracy, put a note through my letterbox saying it would be nice to wish all of their neighbours in the avenue a ‘Happy New Year’ for 2021. As it has been a strange year and normal socialising isn’t allowed at the moment, they would like to invite everyone to come out after midnight and welcome in the New Year in a socially distant way from the safety of their doorway or driveway.

After the bells, neighbours came out with a glass in hand wishing everyone a ‘Happy New Year’ keeping their distance. It turned out a brilliant night for all and a total success. A big ‘thank you’ to Christine and Tracy for arranging this as I know it made everyone’s night. Many thanks again.

IT’S an absolute scandal that people awaiting the second dose of the vaccine have been told they may have to wait months.

The continuous mixed messages regarding this virus and the vaccine are having an affect on people’s mental health.

First, we are told that there are millions of vaccines available for a mass rollout and people could see some hope in this darkness.

Next we are being told that there may be a shortage of vaccines and that people can ‘mix and match’ differing types of vaccines which has been challenged by other health experts.

We need some urgent clarification of this mixed up mess. Let’s have some real leadership here as it will certainly not come from Westminster, who have continually messed up spectacularly since the start of this pandemic.

LEWIS HAMILTON, who is a seven-time Formula One champion, has been made a knight in the New Year Honours list.

Many may consider this to be wrong since he has been living in Swiss and Monaco tax havens for 13 years and paid next to nothing in British taxes.

Others may point out that he has contributed to various charities but this was out of money he gained by not paying UK taxes. So in effect it was British taxpayers who funded these charities, not Hamilton.

I WOULD like to know who is running the cleansing department because they haven’t got a clue.

On Tuesday our blue bins were emptied. We always have excess cardboard boxes because of my son’s home dialysis but were told they can’t uplift them anymore and that another truck will collect them. It arrived and picked up cardboard from bottom of the street but mine was only about 10 steps away but left them. Why send two trucks to do the same job? What a waste of public money.

I’M dreading how many unruly teenagers will be allowed to roam the streets over the next month with the schools closed. Can parents please do their job properly?
