Residents in Glasgow are being warned to remain cautious as sheets of "black ice" have hit the city's roads and pavements throughout the evening.

A yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office was put in place from 6pm on Sunday, lasting until 11am this morning.

Forecasters have warned Glaswegians to take care when walking along pavements and roads as the subzero temperatures are expected to last until the afternoon.

Floods of posts on Twitter have highlighted the issue of "black ice" on roads and pavements across the city as residents have urged one another to take care.

One Tweet reads: "Please take care when out, the main roads, side streets and pavements are covered in black ice."

Another added: "Black ice everywhere were this morning people."

It comes as a cold snap has seen lakes and ponds across the city freeze over, with ice skaters taking to Queen's Park over the weekend.
