EXTRA staff have been drafted into Glasgow's hospitals after the city was covered in treacherous "black ice".

Health board bosses confirmed more medics were called in today to cope with an increase in weather-related incidents.

They have urged anyone who has slipped, tripped, or fallen to go to the Minor Injury Units at New Victoria, Stobhill, or the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Glasgow weather: Cold spell set to continue as 'black ice' covers city

A NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokesperson said: "Our Minor Injury Units and EDs have been much busier today as a result of the freezing weather conditions and black ice. We have been treating a large number of injuries from slips, trips and falls.

"In certain areas, we have had to bring in extra staff to cope with the demand and we urge everyone to be especially careful.

Glasgow Times:

"Members of the public are reminded that the way they can access urgent care has changed recently. This means that if your condition isn’t life threatening, you should call NHS 24 on 111, day or night, to access the right care.

"You can also attend our Minor Injury Units (MIUs), which are the best places to visit to receive treatment for cuts, sprains and broken bones. You are likely to get treated faster for these injuries here as you will not have to wait for people with serious injuries and conditions to be treated first."
