REGARDING the recent letter about who is running the cleansing department, I don’t believe anyone is running it.

I would have thought cleansing was essential work and therefore Covid should not be used as an excuse for not carrying out this essential work.

Only recently it was reported there is a growth in the number of rats in our city.

The litter on the pavements and in the gutters outside my home and all along Dumbarton Road in Whiteinch is a disgrace, and after promises of return phone calls from authorities that never came, I have come to the conclusion that there is nobody running the cleansing.

Can I add that local residents should also take responsibility and take their litter home and hope the cleansing will pick it up from the proper bins.

I’LL be shocked if teenagers stick to this latest lockdown.

I’m sure local football pitches will be packed out as per usual as parents ignore the rules and allow their children to do as they please.

OUR readers had lots to say on Catriona Stewart’s column regarding Celtic’s trip to Dubai. Here’s a selection...

WHY are people allowed to travel to airports? I thought the country is in lockdown?

Who do these professional football people think they are? Why is football not in lockdown?

It should be from today, First Minister!

Andrew McMillan

I HAVE just been along Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands and no-one seems to be taking heed of this latest lockdown.

Ronnie Foster

IT seems really insensitive and out of touch with even their own supporters to be going to Dubai in the midst of the pandemic when there is renewed suffering and adversity for all and particularly the most vulnerable.

This is symptomatic of a club who have lost their way at the present time through the burden of expectation and are in need of major reinvigoration on many levels.

Hugh Jamieson

THIS trip was sanctioned by the SNP administration. Why did they do that when we are all advised not to do such things?

Stephen O’Malley

ARE the police standing in Glasgow and Edinburgh airport checking tickets? If they don’t want you to travel, shut the airports.

MANY other forms of professional entertainment also carry on.

Lockdown isolates people and for many the telly provides an essential outlet.

Most football clubs are trying very hard to prevent catching or spreading Covid.

Tom Berney

THE only defence of Celtic is they will be in a bubble much the same as Rangers when they go to play in Europe.

The people in the park are more likely to spread it, but my own view is they are all in the wrong including the people who allowed them to go – the solution we keep getting told is complete lockdown and if that’s what we need, do it.
