Music promoter Geoff Ellis has promised to bring TRNSMT to Glasgow this summer, according to reports.

The festival boss believes a combination of mass testing and the Covid-19 vaccine rollout could ensure it goes ahead, the Daily Record reports.

The Glasgow Green festival is expected in July and will see big names such as Lewis Capaldi and Liam Gallagher.

It is understood deputy national clinical director John Harden told the TRNSMT boss the likelihood of the event going ahead can be discussed in mid-February.

Mr Ellis told the Daily Record:  “I have been in regular contact with the Scottish Government, along with other people in the industry. We have updated them with what is going on in other countries."

He claimed a trial event in Spain showed a promising start and there does not appear to be a spike in transmission as a result of the event.

“If you couple a similar strategy here, with the benefit of our huge vaccination drive, the situation rapidly advances to one where you can get back to doing things that have been impossible in recent times," he added.

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “We understand how important Scotland’s world-leading festivals are for the wider economy – and that events need long lead-in times for planning – and we are working with the sector to ensure it can start planning for a safe return and reopening once the virus has been successfully suppressed.

“But right now, the main thing is stay at home, reduce contact with others and help control the virus as we roll out our vaccination programme.”
