A GLASGOW church leader has warned Donald Trump’s expulsion from Twitter and the global pandemic are signs that the end of the world is approaching.

Andrew Owen, the founder of Destiny Church, a charismatic sect which has branches in the city centre and South Side, said in a letter to his followers that a “seismic shift” had occurred.

President Trump was banned from social media sites after he was accused of inciting a mob to attack the US Capitol in Washington.

According to The Times, Pastor Owen wrote: “For the first time we saw the big tech giants decide that some people’s thoughts, ideas and opinions were not to be shared with the wider world and blocked tens of thousands of accounts, closing many of them permanently.”

He added: “The cancel culture of too many universities has now reached you and me. It’s now a real possibility that perhaps a year or two from now, Facebook, YouTube and others may prohibit church online and ban any Christian content.

“I have been asked so many times of late, are these things, plus a global pandemic, the signs of the end of the times.

“The answer is it’s the countdown to the end.”

Last February Pr Owen suggested that God was responsible for the cancellation of Strictly Come Dancing shows in Glasgow after the roof at the SSE Hydro leaked, in retribution for the venue preventing another American evangelist, Franklin Graham, from preaching there.

“I think God has a Glaswegian sense of humour,” he said.

In a statement Twitter said: “Given the violent events in Washington DC, and increased risk of harm, we began permanently suspending thousands of accounts that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content.”
