TRNSMT bosses remain hopeful that the summer event will steam ahead this year after Glastonbury was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Coordinators of the world's largest music festival announced today that they were "so sorry" to have to axe the Somerset bash for the second year in a row.

Despite the announcement, TRNSMT director, Geoff Ellis, remains confident that the popular musical weekend at Glasgow Green will go ahead.

Citing the size differences between the two festivals, he said: “Glastonbury is the biggest festival in the world and it's sad to see that, due to its enormous scale and taking several months to get the city-sized festival site ready, that it's unable to go ahead this year.

"By comparison, TRNSMT is a much smaller city centre event with no camping. As such it takes us days rather than months to build TRNSMT.

"Therefore, we will continue to listen to and follow the advice from the Government and remain positive about events later in the summer."

Last week, Mr Ellis revealed he was “optimistic” that the bash will return in July after it was scrapped last year due to the virus.

He added: "At this time though, the virus is particularly prevalent and we all need to keep each other safe and adhere to the restrictions that are in place for our safety and to relieve the pressure on the NHS.

"With the effective roll out of the vaccine across the country, there is reason to be optimistic but as the government have always said, it is too early for them to say when current restrictions on events might be lifted and we respect that. We will continue to provide updates to all the TRNSMT fans when we have them, most likely early March.

"Stay safe for now and we hope that we can get together again soon to enjoy some amazing music when safe to do so.”
