I WAS shocked to read about the car park firm coining in so much money next to the Louisa Jordan hospital at the SEC (Glasgow Times, Tuesday).

Surely this firm has to give any profits back?

There is a time and place to make money but not when people are either going for the vaccine or helping to administer it to patients. I hope this company has a rethink and hands back the parking charges it has received during the vaccination process at the hospital.

I HAD to chuckle on noting that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to visit Scotland this week in an “all-out” bid to save the Union.

He is expected to use the trip to make a plea, without any sense of irony, for Scots to reject “narrow separatism” and hail the benefits of being in the UK.

Noting that we are some months away from April Fool’s Day, it should be noted that this statement is from a prime minister whose narrow nationalism, driven by his right-wing Tory Party, has seen Scotland as part of the UK forced out of a European Union of 28 states which comprises the largest single market in the world.

Given his appalling poll ratings in Scotland, I would urge Mr Johnson to become a frequent visitor north of the Border.

WITH regards to Lidl recognising workers with a bonus (Glasgow Times, online), it’s about time key workers are recognised for all they do.

READERS had lots to say on our Facebook page on whether frontline workers should be given a £2000 pay rise. Here’s a selection of comments.

I THINK they do deserve a wage rise but so do the non-frontline workers.

Like most of us, there should be conditions, i.e. if there are people employed by the NHS in any form, who have been off sick for long periods of time, then I don’t think they should receive the full amount because all their colleagues have had to pick up the slack – and I don’t work for the NHS.

IF there is spare money swirling about I’d rather it was given to people who’ve lost their businesses and livelihoods “saving lives”.

Glasgow Times: Clap for Carers in Glasgow

They are the ones who have lost the most in all of this.

I’D rather see the money spent getting those who have lost their jobs back to work.

The NHS have done a good job and their staff haven’t missed a pay check since all this started.

Lots of other people have not been so lucky.

WHAT about ALL the frontline staff? Not just nurses and doctors. What about carers, shop workers, bus drivers and the like?

I THINK everyone should be given a £2000 pay rise so we can all kick start the economy again. We need to create supply and demand.
