ANOTHER Post Office is set to close in the East End of Glasgow.

Cranhill Post Office, located on Lamlash Crescent is set to close on Tuesday February 23.

An information letter from Post Office states that the closure is temporary following the resignation of the postmaster at the branch.

Residents have been assured that they are "working hard to keep any period of closure to a minimum and we are currently investigating the options available which will enable us to reinstate a Post Office service to the local community."

The withdrawl of services will follow the closure of the Garthamlock Post Office on Saturday February 13.

Glasgow East MP, David Linden has raised concerns about the impact this will have on the community. He said:

Glasgow Times: SNP’s David Linden represents Glasgow East

“Just a fortnight after learning of the imminent closure of Garthamlock Post Office, Glasgow East has been devastated by news of yet another closure - this time in Cranhill.

“I’ve been calling for action from the UK Government for years now. The current business model of Post Office Ltd is clearly unsustainable and failing our communities.

“Because of coronavirus, people are trying to do the right thing and stay as local as possible. Between the bank branch closures that have devastated local high streets in recent years and Post Office branches shutting their doors, people are being forced to travel much greater distances to lodge a cheque or post a parcel.

“This situation is unsustainable and Westminster can’t just keep ignoring the problem.”
