Shane Duffy has been named in the Premiership team of the month for January.

The Celtic defender played a part in all five of his side's matches for the month where they managed just ONE victory and two clean sheets.

Irishman Duffy did not start against Rangers at Ibrox in their early January defeat. Instead he came off the bench as Callum McGregor's own goal did the damage and helped Gers extend their lead at the top of the table.

He did start their next four games including their 1-1 draw against Hibs where Kevin Nisbet bagged a last minute leveller. The 29-year-old also started against Livingston where they kept a clean sheet and then played the full 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw away to Livi and a 2-0 win over Hamilton Accies. put together their team of the month for Sky Sports and placed Duffy alongside Livi's Jon Guthrie at centre-half, with Rangers' full-back Borna Barisic and Hibs's Paul McGinn making up the defensive four.

Duffy's stats saw him gain a cumulative 7.38 score rating ranking third overall for clearances (31) and first for aerial duels won (41). The Celtic star was the lowest ranked defender in team of the month but came out on top ahead of Rangers' Alfredo Morelos and St Johnstone's Chris Kane on 7.36 and 7.27 respectively.

Morelos has scored three goals in five games for Gers to earn his spot on the team while Kent and Aribo provided three assists and two goals between them for the month.

Barisic laid on three goals for his teammates in January and made 16 key passes. He was man of the match in three of the five matches.

Duffy, meanwhile, has been heavily criticised for his performances this season with fans urging him to call it a day and head back to Brighton. Former Rangers striker Kevin Kyle also suggested he 'disappear' to allow the Hoops to have a strong finish to the season.
