PARTICK Thistle have issued an apology to any young footballer affected by sexual abuse in Scottish football.

The Firhill side said they remained committed to working with all investigations and acknowledged the impact events had on victims.

The Jags were one of a number of teams named in an independent report into historic child abuse in the game which was published today.

A statement read: "Partick Thistle FC notes the content of the report published today in relation to the independent review of historic sexual abuse in Scottish football.

"We remain committed to cooperating fully with all investigations and we apologise sincerely on behalf of Partick Thistle to anyone personally affected by historic abuse within our game.

"We fully acknowledge the impact of these events and their enduring effect on those affected."

In the report, one young person alleged he had been sexually assaulted by a physiotherapist - named only as G - at the club during the 1980s.

The man then, according to the report, convinced the youngster - referred to as P - to stay quiet by saying he would help them sign for Thistle. He went on to do this. The child was 14 at the time.

The player stayed with the club for around 18 months before - it is alleged - he had to leave as he could no longer stand the abuse.

"Safeguarding is an everyday part of all Thistle does and we will continue to uphold the strictest standards of compliance with all safeguarding legislation, now and in future."
