MORE than 20% of people over-16 had received their first dose of the vaccine by Sunday, February 7.

Data released by Public Health Scotland shows 197,580 individuals living under the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board – or 20.06%  – had been vaccinated.

A total of 209,050 vaccinations across Scotland took place in GP surgeries, these have been reported based on the NHS board location of the practice.

Population figures are taken from the National Records of Scotland’s mid-year estimates for 2019. The percentage coverage is calculated using the data for people over 16.

How many people have been vaccinated within the Glasgow City Council boundaries?

By February 7, first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine had been given to 70,746 people in Glasgow, according to Public Health Scotland figures.

However, this figure is likely to be higher as the 209,050 vaccinations which had taken place at GP surgeries across the country were reported as ‘other’.

This is because no details were available on the council area of these GPs when the figures were published. It also means no percentage uptake of the virus in Glasgow City has been shown.

Public Health Scotland is expecting to release daily vaccination data “in the near future”.

The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine was first used in the UK on December 8, with the AstraZeneca vaccine rolled out from January 4. Both require two doses.

NHS Scotland is following the recommendations of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), with vaccines prioritised in the following order:

  • Residents in care homes for older adults and their carers
  • all those 80 and over, frontline health and social care workers
  • all those 75 and over
  • all those 70 and over and clinically extremely vulnerable people
  • all those 65 and over
  • all people between 16 and 64 with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk
  • all those 60 and over
  • all those 55 and over
  • all those 50 and over
