A serial sex offender who once tried to lure a 10-year-old child into a pedophile ring in Glasgow has died in HMP Barlinnie.

Alistair Findlay was found dead on Friday, having served only two years of a life sentence.

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be conducted by the Scottish Prison Service, however Police Scotland have ruled his death is not suspicious.

In 2019, the 61-year-old was given a lifelong restriction order and jailed for a minimum of four-and-a-half years.

The beast preyed on vulnerable youths in the 1970s and 80s, using his place of work at a Newlands children's home - the Park Lodge - to launch his attacks.

He was initially prosecuted and then cleared in 1984 following allegations made by residents.

But in 2018, police launched a fresh investigation into abuse claims at the former Glasgow City Council home that shut in 2008.

It resulted in Findlay being hauled into the dock as victims recalled harrowing ordeals at his hands.

Police Scotland later launched a new investigation into abuse claims at the home, which closed in 2008. He was found guilty of seven charges after a trial.

The beast was previously caged for six years in 1999 for trying to lure a 10 year-old girl into a paedophile ring.

Other crimes included being locked up again for three years in 2004 for having indecent images of children.

He was last jailed for two years in 2016 for abusing boys during swimming lessons.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “At 5pm on Friday, February 12, officers were made aware of the death of a 61-year-old man in HMP Barlinnie.

"A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course however the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
