A WOMAN with a "significant record" was caught smuggling Class A drugs into prison.

Prison guards spotted Pamela Telfer looking "agitated" while in the visiting area of Barlinnie Prison.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the 34-year-old was taken aside, searched and found to be hiding 3g of cocaine.

It had a street value of between £80 and £100.

The prosecutor said: "The accused was observed within the visiting area of the prison to be agitated.

"She was searched and 3g of cocaine was found with a street value of £80 to £100.

"She was cautioned and charged and made no reply."

Telfer's defence brief said his client had a history of drug addiction.

He said: "There is a significant record for this young woman but the social work report indicated some positive progress.

"She is a woman with a long history of drug difficulties and she recognises that needs to be addressed.

"This is a serious matter before your Lordship."

Telfer appeared in court from custody.

Sheriff Allan Findlay tagged Telfer for six months, keeping her at home from 7pm to 7am.

The length of the order was reduced from nine months thanks to her guilty plea.

The sheriff said: "It is a serious matter trying to take Class A drugs into prison.

"This is a direct alternative to custody.

"I am telling you here and now you are going to jail if you breach it."
