Rangers are closing in on their first Premiership title in 10 years.

Steven Gerrard's men have had a near-perfect campaign this term and are now just seven points away from clinching the trophy.

The Ibrox men are a staggering 18 points clear of their rivals Celtic after they dropped more points away to basement boys Ross County last night, and with just 24 points left to play for, two wins and a draw would make it mathematically impossible for the Hoops to catch them.

Should Gers win their next two matches against Livingston and St Mirren, they could potentially head to Celtic Park for the third Old Firm derby of the season already having been declared champions.

For that scenario to happen, though, Celts would have to drop points to either Aberdeen or Dundee Utd - not out of the realms of possibility considering their season so far.

If both sides win their respective two fixtures, Rangers would only have to avoid defeat at Parkhead to secure the trophy at the home of their fiercest opponents.

Manager Gerrard recently finally allowed himself to think about winning the league but admitted he still won't allow his players to get carried away or complacent. "It is normal to think (about the title)," he said. "I don’t think there is any harm to think. But the one thing I won’t do is get carried away too soon.

“We very much realise where we are and the opportunity that we have got but the full focus and full attention turns to Thursday night now because we want to go and match last season’s achievement of going to the last 16 in Europe."
