THE solicitor to Glasgow City Council is taking voluntary redundancy, prompting a restructure in the chief executive’s department.
Carole Forrest, 52, who is also director of governance, and is effectively deputy to chief executive Annemarie O’Donnell, leaves the council in April.
Ms Forrest helped guide the council through the long running equal pay episode with a series of court cases and then a final settlement reached with unions and claimants' lawyers.
Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken said: “Carole is not someone who seeks the limelight, but her contribution to the city over nearly three decades has been formidable – and never more so than in overseeing the settlement of Glasgow’s responsibilities on equal pay.
“That was one of the most complex and challenging things I could have asked of officers and Carole was absolutely instrumental in making it happen.”
The actual post will not be filled but a restructuring will take place to manage the vacancy
Annemarie O’Donnell, Chief Executive has informed staff of Mr Forrest's decision to leave after almost 30 years with the council in the legal department.
