An Easter holiday free school meals payment of £125 is to be paid for all eligible children in Glasgow.

The additional payment is to be paid out to parents and carers between March 19 and March 22.

Those who already receive free school meals do not need to do anything. They will automatically get the payment.

Maureen McKenna, Director of Education, has written to parents and carers to outline the payment details and key dates for free school meals.

For P1 to P3 children the last payment was £25 on February 19 and for P4-7 children and secondary pupils who are eligible, £25 was also paid last week and there will also be a payment of £12.50 on March 5.

Ms McKenna said there is an additional payment of £100 plus £25 for the Spring break for all children who are entitled to free school meals, which will be paid next month.

She said that new applicants who meet the criteria and apply before March 12 will be paid the additional Spring payment.

The council has been paying £25 per fortnight directly into parents' bank accounts during lockdown to support families who are on free school meals while they are learning from home.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said: "We've been keeping our parents updated with as much information as possible during the pandemic to offer reassurance and help during a very challenging time for everyone."
