THE SON of a murdered man who robbed £400 from a sex shop faces a jail sentence.

David McGibbon, 34, stole the cash from Glasgow city centre’s Your Secret Desires on Boxing Day 2019.

McGibbon was armed with a knife leaving 19-year-old shop assistant Shanice Banda terrified.

McGibbon - whose dad Edward was killed in his flat in Glasgow's Sighthill in 2005 - was only released from prison two weeks before the incident.

McGibbon pleaded guilty on Monday to assault and robbery.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard McGibbon entered the Argyle Street store at 2.40pm and approached Miss Banda at the cash desk.

Prosecutor Sarah Latta said: “He revealed a large knife with a red handle and stated ‘open up the till’.

“She did so immediately and McGibbon grabbed all the cash that was within estimated to be around £400.”

McGibbon then demanded Miss Banda’s purse from her handbag.

He stated: “I have got this knife and I will kill you.”

McGibbon snatched the handbag , rummaged through it, but found no valuables.

As he fled, he said: “I wouldn’t phone the police if I were you, I would phone them in 10 minutes.”

Graeme Brown, defending, told the court McGibbon had no money due to his recent release from prison.

The lawyer added: “The most significant event in his past was the murder of his father in 2005.

“He has unresolved grief and anger about what happened to his father.

“He has no recollection of the shop incident due to his drug problem at the time.”

Sentence was deferred until the end of the month for background reports by Sheriff Martin Jones QC

The sheriff said: “This was a robbery of a lonely 19-year-old shop assistant and this will and attract a custodial sentence.

“This incident is an escalation of his criminal behaviour.”
