ALMOST 3000 people in Glasgow have been vaccinated in the past 24 hours, figures show.

A first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has been given to 153,673 people – or around 29% of those over 16 – within the Glasgow City Council boundaries.

This haa increased from 150,691 people in the Public Health Scotland figures reported on Tuesday.

Under the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board, 328,770 people have now received a vaccine.

That means 33.4% of over 16s have been given a jag – up by 5593 people from Tuesday’s figures.

The figures can include historic data due to reporting delays and are subject to change.

Across Scotland, there has now been 1,661,879 first doses, which is 36.6%, and 92,550 second doses, or 2%.

Yesterday’s figures show 27,518 more first doses administered.

Percentage coverage is higher in surrounding council areas. In East Dunbartonshire, 41.4% of people – 26,401 – have received a vaccine and the percentage in Inverclyde has reached 40.5%, which is 26,401 residents.

In East Renfrewshire, it was 38.2% (29,071 people) yesterday, 38.1% in North Lanarkshire (106,125), 37.9% in West Dunbartonshire (27,742) and 36.9% (54,975) for Renfrewshire.

However, an area’s population needs to be considered in relation to percentage coverage.

“Areas with higher rates of older or clinically vulnerable people will have more individuals in the highest priority groups,” Public Health Scotland says.
