A MAN who brandished a knife at a teenage girl working in a Glasgow takeaway store has been jailed.

Jonathon Black threatened the 18-year-old with the weapon and told her “I’ll kill you’.

The 37-year-old, whose address was listed as a homeless centre, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

On January 26 this year he entered the Chicken Place in the city’s Gallowgate.

The procurator fiscal depute told the court: “At 10.30pm the witness was working within the store as a shop front assistant.

“The accused entered, and he was asked to leave due to the current Covid-19 regulations. He ignored this and asked for food.

“He was asked to leave and was told he would not be served until he left but he became aggressive.

“He pulled a utility knife from his waistband. With the knife in his hand, he brandished it towards the witness in an aggressive manner.

“He shouted towards her, ‘I’ll kill you’. Another member of staff attended at the shop front. They urged the accused to leave the premises.

“Two police officers were on duty outside. They were made aware. The accused left the premises and officers detained and searched him. The knife was found within a bag he was carrying, and he was placed under arrest.”

Black’s solicitor said he had no memory of the incident.

He added: “Mr Black is clearly no stranger to the court.

“His convictions outline that, but they also outline his chaotic lifestyle in relation to alcohol and drug issues.

“I have known Mr Black for quite a number of years. This type of offending has not been in his character. He has been on a downward spiral in the past year or so.

“He’s been in custody for a period of time and he is righting himself to a degree. I would ask the court to consider a drug treatment and testing order.

“When the offence was discussed with him, he showed significant remorse.”

Sheriff Paul Brown told Black: “I have listened very carefully to what your lawyer has said on your behalf. This crime was disgusting, it was committed towards an 18-year-old female working within already difficult circumstances.

“I believe there is no appropriate alternative to a custodial sentence.

Black was also charged with stealing a quantity of cosmetics from House of Fraser on Buchanan Street in January 2019.

He was jailed for a total of 266 days.
