‘POWERHOUSE Tina turns it on’ was the headline in this newspaper more than 30 years ago.

More than 10,000 fans of legendary rock singer Tina Turner watched her raise the roof at the SECC in a show packed with hits and costume changes galore.

Tonight, the legendary singer is ‘back’ in Glasgow – this time as the star of major new documentary Tina, which is having its UK premiere here as part of the Glasgow Film Festival (March 5 to 8).

Produced by Trainspotting producer Andrew Macdonald, and made with the full cooperation of Turner herself - who last played Glasgow at Hampden in July 2000 - Tina tells the extraordinary life story of one of rock’s greatest icons.

A feast of archive footage captures the blazing talent and crowd-pleasing swagger of a singing sensation at her peak in hits from ‘Proud Mary’ to ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’. Tina discusses the highs and lows of a private life scarred by the violent abuse she suffered at the hands of husband Ike, and her triumphant liberation to become a bestselling global artist.
