POLICE are alert to the danger Rangers fans could defy Covid rules to celebrate if their team wins the league this weekend, according to reports.

The Light Blues could see their first cup win in a decade and it is feared supporters could breach strict lockdown rules to celebrate the win.

Steven Gerrard's men need to beat St Mirren and are hoping for Celtic to lose to Dundee United on Sunday if they are to clinch the title.

In an apparent internal memo seen by the Scottish Sun, officers were cautioned that there could be a "possible disruption to duties".

It reportedly read: "There is a strong possibility, given the current points differential in the SPFL, that Rangers could win the league title imminently.”

A police spokesman told the paper: “We are monitoring the outcome of relevant fixtures and  plan a number of contingencies to minimise the impact on officers and the public.”

We told last year how Celtic fans gathered outside Parkhead, in defiance of the club's wishes, to celebrate the Hoops league win during last spring's strict lockdown.

Police at the time warned fans not to come to the stadium bus some ignored their words and gathered to cheer on the team's ninth consecutive win.
