A GLASGOW doctor has slammed Rangers fans for their "irresponsible celebration" at George Square.

Dr Andrew Mackay, a consultant in anesthesia, condemned the large gatherings in Glasgow after Rangers won the Scottish Premiership yesterday afternoon.

He described the plumes of coloured smoke from flares as "aerosolised red, white and blue SARS-CoV."

He said: "See that stuff in the air? That’s aerosolised red, white and blue SARS-CoV.

"I eagerly await this week’s spike thanks to the responsible celebration of which team put a ball in a net more than another one."

Only a "small number" of fans were arrested after the city centre demonstration while several fines were handed out.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon pleaded with Rangers Football Club to send their fans home.

She said: "I share folks’ anger at this.

"Everyone has made so many sacrifices in the past year and seeing a minority risk our progress is infuriating and disgraceful.

"It is deeply unfair to the entire country, and the police have a hard enough job already. Please ask fans to go home @RangersFC."

Elsewhere in Glasgow, crowds at Ibrox Stadium brought Subway stations to a halt as police dispersed large gatherings.
