THE owner of a famous Rangers pub is among fans who have netted over £6,000 to repair damaged benches as a result of last night's title celebrations at George Square.

The Glasgow Times understands that various fan groups have already raised in excess of £6,000 after launching several bids through GoFundMe.

Robert Marshall, who runs The Louden Tavern, organised one of the appeals which has brought in almost £4,300 since being launched earlier this morning.

He said: “We’ll get together and get it sorted and give the rest of it to charity. We need to speak to the council to find out exactly what damage was done and how many benches.”

“It’s really quite simple, we have always done things the proper way. I think it’s proper that if Rangers fans have been responsible for the damage then the Rangers fans should pay for it. That’s what we intend to do.”

As well as the benches, the Louden is raising money for The Anthony Nolan Charity who help save the lives of those with blood cancer and disorders.

Mr Marshall added that a better plan should have been put in place to deal with the number of fans who rushed to Ibrox and George Square yesterday.

He added: “I don’t blame the fans, it’s been ten long years. It’s just excitement and it’s just a relief. Maybe other things should have been put in place.Maybe the Police and the council should have co-ordinated and opened Ibrox Stadium and let them sit apart.

“Somebody should have thought of something because they knew it was going to happen.”
