A YOUNG mother has told of her heartache after being diagnosed with breast cancer just days before Christmas.

Stephanie Lynch admitted it has been “crazy” and “overwhelming” since she was given the devastating news just late last year.

However, the extent of her devastation wasn’t realised until undergoing a biopsy at Cardonald’s Rosshall Hospital.

The test confirmed Stephanie didn’t have just one tumour, she had several, and the disease had also spread to her lymph nodes.

What was thought to have been stage one breast cancer was, in fact, stage three, and the mum-of-two is now in for a gruelling 18-week chemotherapy journey, which will begin today.

It was news which left the 32 year old on her knees.

“Going from stage one to stage three really got to me,” she said, “because I thought this is really not great.

“I‘m just amazed my tiny chest can hide it all without it showing up on scans. It’s not until someone is going through your tissue with a fine-tooth comb.

“It was completely shattering and it’s been crazy. Just really up and down.”

Stephanie first discovered a lump in her breast while pregnant with her second son, Jonah, now one.

She put it down to milk glands forming in anticipation of her son’s arrival, however, after the businesswoman began to lose weight following his birth she knew something was wrong.

Like many busy mums, Stephanie put off seeking medical attention until her husband, James, spotted a lump in his collar bone.

The pair decided to visit Rosshall Hospital for a scan one Thursday in December.

By Monday, James had the all clear and Stephanie was given the news everyone dreads: she had breast cancer.

“Thankfully, we have private health care because they said it was a minimum of a 12-week wait on the NHS,” she said.

“I have a lot of support so I’m very lucky, but being diagnosed so young was such a shock. I really wanted to encourage others to check their boobs.

“It’s not something anyone told me to do and I didn’t know anyone with breast cancer.”

Stephanie found social-media fame with an Instagram page, inside_the_white_house_, detailing her and husband James’ renovation journey of their new home.

Her stunning interiors quickly saw the salon-owner rack up more than 40,000 followers, while her personal page, steffilouiselynch, quickly followed behind with 15,200.

Following her diagnosis, Stephanie made the brave decision to take her Instagram profile to new heights by sharing her incredibly personal cancer journey in a bid to aid with early diagnosis.

Now, she plans to take her followers along as she tackles 12-rounds of chemotherapy and hormone treatment which will send her into an early menopause.

She said: “I’ve had my kids, so that’s great, but it’s obviously a lot to take in.

“I decided to shave my own head because I thought if I just do it now then I won’t be traumatised watching it come out in clumps or finding it every time I lift my head off the pillow.

“My eldest, Joshua, is six, and he just thinks mummy’s lump needs medicine that makes her hair fall out so he’s actually quite happy with it.”

She added: “Unfortunately, since I shared it online, I’ve had women who’ve contacted me to say they checked themselves because of me and had been diagnosed.

“It can happen to anyone, man or woman, of any age so I just want to encourage everyone to check. It’s really important.”
