A SEX attacker who raped two girls has been jailed for seven years.

Gary Cassidy struck at a house in Glenboig, Lanarkshire as well as during car journeys.

The crimes occurred between May 1998 and July 2001.

The victims were aged 12 and 13 when Cassidy first pounced.

The 57 year-old was on Tuesday sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier been convicted of two rape charges.

Cassidy, of the city's Govan, had denied the accusations.

Lord Weir told him: "You took advantage of them to a disgraceful degree.

"It is clear from the victim statements that this has had a significant and lasting impact."

Sarah Livingstone, defending, earlier said Cassidy had "intellectual and health difficulties".
