AN amateur snapper has shared his delight after crooner Marti Pellow used footage of his 46 year old film in his latest music video.

The former Wet Wet Wet frontman released the video for his latest single "These are the Days" showing clips from the film “Clydebank 1975” made by Owen McGuigan - a Glasgow Times Camera Club member.

The footage shows Clydebank during a time of transition due to the decline of the heavy industries that employed many people in the town such as shipbulding and the Singer sewing factory.

Owen made the film in 1975 after purchasing himself a small camera after he got married in 1974 and took up photography as a hobby.

He said: “I made this film way back then when it was only going to be family and friends that were going to see it. There was no internet or things like that. I got married in 1974 and up to that point, I didn’t have a lot of money.

"Once I got married, I had some spending money so I thought I was just going to buy a projector and some cinefilms. But then I thought ‘I’ll buy myself a wee camera and I’ll start filming things.’ One of the films is the Clydebank one.”

A longtime Wet Wet Wet and Pellow fan, Owen is delighted that his footage is being used in this way.

He said “I think it’s great. It’s quite good it’s being used for that. A lot of people have seen it now because I had it on the internet. I was quite surprised that Marti mentioned my name. I feel quite honoured. It’s a brilliant song. It brings back a lot of memories for us people. Life was simpler back then.”

Owen also runs popular website “My Clydebank Photos” where Marti is a frequent visitor.

Seeing the footage has cheered Owen up after he was diagnosed with cancer last year, which was covered in our sister paper The Clydebank Post.

“I had cancer last year but all the treatment got stopped. The pandemic came and the treatments stopped.

“It’s been quite something. A wee thing like that brightens your day up. You get to see a wee bit of your cinefilm in a Marti Pellow video.”

“It’s good to know that this video I made all those years ago is getting more prominence.”

In a question and answer session last Friday, Pellow told fans the footage made his new video “rather special.” He said: “I found some footage that was filmed by a gentleman called Owen McGuigan. He documented the demise of the little High Street. It was good to be able to get that archive footage. It just made it rather special for me.”
