An election blunder has led to hundreds of polling cards sent out directing voters to the wrong polling station this week.

Two by elections are taking place on Thursday, one in Baillieston and one in Partick East/ Kelvindale.

Around 300 recently registered voters in the two by elections have been given the wrong information about where they should go to vote.

They have been directed to primary schools that will be used in May for the Scottish Parliament elections but which are not being used this week.

Glasgow City Council said around 800 polling card letters were sent to voters who registered to vote in person between February 11th and March 2nd. Of that number around 300 contained the wrong information about where to vote.

If voters turn up at the wrong station as stated on the polling card they will be directed to the correct polling station.

A clerical error led to information about where to vote in May’s parliamentary election being included in these letters about the by elections.

For the Baillieston by election, if you received a letter saying that you should vote in Caledonia, Garrowhill or St Bridget’s primary schools then you should instead vote at Bannerman High.

In Partick East/Kelvindale, if you received a letter saying you should vote at Kelvindale Primary you should vote at Cleveden Secondary.

If you received a letter saying you should vote at Hyndland Primary you should vote at Hyndland Secondary.

Annemarie O’Donnell, Returning Officer, said: “I am very sorry that this has happened and sorry for the confusion it will cause some voters.

“No one should lose their vote because of this. We are putting signs at the schools to redirect people to the correct polling places, and you do not need an accurate poll card, or need a poll card at all, to vote.

“This mistake has been caused by us preparing for the Scottish Parliament Election and Council By Elections at the same time and there is no risk of it being repeated in May.”

Two primary schools are being used this week. Notre Dame Primary in Partick East / Kelvindale and Swinton Primary in Baillieston will be used in this week’s by elections. If your polling card asks you to vote at these locations, you will be able to do so.
