A THUG who tried to gouge a police officer’s eyes was on Tuesday jailed for 21 months.
Ian Clayton pounced on constable Stephen Meredith in Glasgow’s Garscadden on December 14 2020.
The 40-year-old also head butted the officer and punched him on the head.

Clayton pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to PC Meredith’s injury and resisting, obstructing or hindering police.
He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
The court heard Clayton made threats of violence towards the home owners at Beil Street.
PC Meredith and PC Eilidh McSporran attended and tried to arrest him.
Clayton then head butted and punched PC Meredith.

Both officers fell to the ground while trying to retrain Clayton who continued to resist.
Prosecutor Laura Bradley said: “While still on the ground, Clayton tried to gouge PC Meredith’s eyes.
“He grabbed both sides of his face with both hands.”

Clayton lashed out further and kicked PC McSporran to the face and spat on PC Meredith.
Clayton was arrested after back-up arrived at the scene.
Miss Bradley told the court PC Meredith suffered bruising to the face and a pain in the arm while PC McSporran had bruising to her cheek.
