There may have been no Celtic game this week, but with a busy international football schedule plenty of Parkhead stars have been in action for their respective countries.

Here at Celtic Stock Market, our Glasgow Times Sport writers will take you through whose stock has risen and whose has dropped over the course of the past seven days.

UP

LUCA CONNELL

Glasgow Times:

The former Bolton man was sent out on loan to Queen’s Park for the remainder of the season and he has made an instant impact. In just two games for his new club Connell has bagged his first senior goal and assisted on two occasions.

Connell’s first goal in senior football was an absolute stunner as he broke through from midfield and unleashed a powerful strike into the far corner against Albion Rovers last night. The 19-year-old has failed to break into the Celtic first team since his move from Bolton in 2019, but if he continues to impress at his loan club, he will certainly be in contention come the start of next year’s campaign.

With the news coming this week that Scott Brown will be moving on to Aberdeen in the summer, the central midfield area at Celtic will undoubtably have a new look to it come the start of next season.

ODSONNE EDOUARD

Glasgow Times:

Celtic’s star man has had an impressive international break with France’s under 21s. The striker netted his sixteenth goal for the French youths as they defeated Russia on Sunday. The Hoops frontman won and converted a penalty on 15 minutes to give his side the lead in the European Championships qualifier.

Edouard will be looking to add to his already impressive goal record at international youth level when France take on Iceland tonight. The 23-year-old has been one of Celtic’s bright sparks this season and his form has grabbed the attention of several top European clubs. It remains to be seen where he will end up this summer, but Parkhead fans will be hoping he opts to stay in Glasgow.

JACK HENDRY

Glasgow Times:

After three years out of the international set-up, there was certainly a few shocked members of the Tartan Army when Jack Hendry was given a start against Austria last Thursday. The Celtic defender has spent this season on-loan at Belgian side K.V. Oostende from Celtic and he has impressed by all accounts. After catching the eye of Steve Clarke, Hendry was given the nod as Scotland opened up their World Cup qualifying campaign with a draw against the Austrians.

Hendry looked impressive on the ball and he was strong positionally on the right of a back three. The 25-year-old started against Israel on Sunday too, but was hooked at half-time. He was by no means the worst Scottish player on the park in the first half but being on a yellow card, and with a change of shape in the offing, he was the easy option to replace. It will be interesting to see how he fares if he starts against the Faroes tonight.

DOWN

SHANE DUFFY

Glasgow Times:

Shane Duffy has played over 40 games for Ireland, but he won’t have experienced a worse international break than this one. The Celtic defender was an unused substitute as his national side suffered one of the worst defeats in their history as European minnows Luxembourg ran out 1-0 winners in World Cup qualifying.

Duffy was then recalled to the Ireland starting XI as they faced off against Qatar in a friendly clash. James McClean scored early for Stephen Kenny’s side before Mohammed Muntari grabbed an equaliser shortly after the interval. Irish fans are now calling for Kenny to be sacked with the team without a win in his first eleven games in charge. This is the worst start by a manager with the Boys In Green since Mick Meagan, who failed to win any of his 12 games in charge between 1969 and 1971.

CALLUM MCGREGOR

Glasgow Times:

McGregor has been an ever present in Steve Clarke’s Scotland team since the former Kilmarnock boss took over the Hampden hotseat. But on Thursday against Austria, Clarke opted to drop the Celtic midfielder in favour of a midfield trio of Scott McTominay, John McGinn and Stuart Armstrong. The three appeared to compliment each other well with McTominay picking up the man of the match award and McGinn bagging an all-important equaliser.

McGregor was introduced from the bench in the dying stages and was awarded with a start against Israel in Scotland’s second qualifying match. The 27-year-old saw plenty of the ball in Tel Aviv, but he wasn’t as affective he would have liked. McGregor is tidy on the ball and always has an eye for a pass in the final third - Steve Clarke will be hoping to see more of that if he opts to start him tonight against the Faroe Islands.

KRISTOFFER AJER

Glasgow Times:

In a mixed international period for Norway, Kristoffer Ajer admitted that he must improve his defending from set-pieces. The centre back was on the end of a 3-0 defeat to Turkey in Norway’s opening qualification match, and he came under major criticism following the full-time whistle. The Norwegian gifted the ball to Ozan Tufan for the opener in the defeat, before miscuing a header into the path of Çaglar Soyuncu for the second.

Almost 50 per cent of Celtic’s goals conceded this season have been from set-pieces and with Ajer being a mainstay in the Hoops line-up he appears to be part of the problem. Reports have linked the 22-year-old with a move away from Parkhead this summer, but will a European heavyweight gamble on him with this major defensive flaw in his game? It remains to be seen.
