FOUR schools in Renfrewshire are set to pilot a vehicle exclusion zone during the school run.
After the Easter holidays, Barsail Primary in Erskine, St Charles Primary, St Catherine’s Primary and Lochfield Primary all in Paisley will implement the scheme that will mean cars are not able to enter the surrounding streets between 8.30am and 9.15am in the morning and again between 2.30pm and 3.15pm after school. The move aims to improve road safety around the school gates.
People who live in and around the schools as well as staff will be able to obtain permits to exempt them from the scheme. School buses, blue badge holders and other essential vehicles will also be exempt.
The council alsohopes to encourage healthier journeys to school.
Emma Henry, Head Teacher at St Catherine’s Primary, said: “I’m looking forward to this pilot being introduced as we want to ensure it is as safe as possible for our children to go to and from school every day.”
