A TEENAGE boy caught hiding a machete by police faces a jail sentence.

Brian Bell, 18, initially brandished the 16.4-inch blade at three men in Glasgow’s Cumbernauld Road on December 9 2020.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the terrified trio ran away as police officers came on to the scene.

Prosecutor Hannah Sweeney said: “The officers saw Bell discard a long item over a fence before losing his footing.”

Officers picked him up and searched him to find a smaller lock back knife and a sheath for the machete.

The knife was later recovered on a small grass verge before Bell was arrested.

He later told officers: “So you found the sword then? I launched it as soon as I seen you.”

Bell pleaded guilty on Tuesday to assaulting the three men, attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He also admitted the unlawful possession of the machete and lock back knife in a public place.

Sentence was deferred until the end of the month for background reports by Sheriff Andrew Cubie who continued the boy’s remand in custody meantime.
