A CAR involved in a South Lanarkshire hit and run which put a child in hospital has been identified by police.

Officers have made a direct appeal to the driver of a grey coloured Vauxhall Corsa to come forward and "do the right thing".

The unidentified motorist sped off after hitting a boy, 13, on Bothwell's Main Street on Monday afternoon.

The victim was taken to Wishaw General Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

In a fresh appeal for information, police say the motor involved appears to have sustained damage to the front passenger headlamp during the incident.

Sergeant Andy Shearer, of the Road Policing Unit Motherwell, said: “We are keen to trace the driver of the vehicle involved in this incident as soon as possible.

“Enquires have established that the car involved was a five door grey Vauxhall Corsa, which would appear to have sustained damage to the front passenger headlamp.

“I am appealing to anyone who might have information, dashcam footage or knowledge of a damaged grey Vauxhall Corsa to get in touch as soon as possible.

“To the driver, I am also making a direct appeal, do the right thing and come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
