THE sun had its hat on at Geilston Garden in Cardross over the weekend as the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) attraction welcomed visitors for the first time this year.

Following the relaxation of lockdown restrictions on Friday, locals headed outdoors to enjoy the fine Easter weather and Geilston proved a popular destination for couples and families.

Alana Ingram, from volunteer group the Friends of Geilston Garden, said: “The garden looks amazing and is a real credit to the garden staff who have worked so hard throughout the winter months with little help as volunteer activity was very limited by the Covid restrictions.

“The daffodils are, as ever, a welcome cheery sight as is the cherry blossom and the hellebores in the borders.

“The heather garden is a blaze of colour and so busy with bees taking advantage of this early food supply.

“There is promise of more colour to come with a mass of tulips around the birdbath in the walled garden, early Rhododendrons and azaleas showing the signs of what is to come and the herbaceous border reawakening. And bluebells coming too - you have to visit every week to make sure you see it all at its best.”

The garden will be open Thursday to Monday from 10am-5pm, with last entry at 4pm.
