Rangers have paid tribute to Prince Philip after Buckingham Palace confirmed today that the Duke of Edinburgh has passed away at the age of 99.

The club wrote on Twitter: "Everyone at Rangers Football Club is saddened by the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

"Our deepest sympathies go to Her Majesty and the rest of the Royal Family."

Prince Philip was the longest-serving consort in British history. The duke and the Queen were married for more than 70 years and Philip dedicated decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch’s side.

He officially retired from public engagements in the summer of 2017.

The Palace said in a statement earlier today: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

“Further announcements will made in due course.

“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

Hibernian also paid tribute in a Twitter post. They wrote: "Everyone at Hibernian Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who had such a wonderful affinity with our city.

"Our thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen and all the Royal Family."
