Eight new electric vehicle parking bays will be installed at Scotstoun Stadium car park as part of the city council’s charging point expansion.

As it stands there are already two 7kW charging bays which will be supplemented by four 7kW and four 22kW vehicle sites.

During the contracts and property committee on Thursday members accepted Glasgow Life’s proposed lease variation to allow the council to grant or accept any other consent which may be required to allow the installation and use of the electric vehicle charging points.

During the meeting a council officer said: “We are looking roll out the implementation of the electric vehicle charging points in various locations – the next one being Scotstoun Stadium.

“We are looking to install eight charging points.”

Officers were asked if councillors would be kept up to date with the work being carried out in their wards.

Councillor Jim Kavanagh said: “Within the Glasgow Life property portfolio during this financial year, could the councillors of the wards involved be informed of what the proposals are - for example Nethercraigs Sports Facility and others when it comes to installing more charging points?”

A council officer confirmed that the council was looking for more up to date plans for the role out of these parking spaces.

A document presented to members confirms that order for the vehicle chargers to be installed and operated from the car park it may be necessary to vary the leases in place between city property, the council and Glasgow Life and to obtain the consent of the parties and city property’s funders to the proposed work.

An update with future charging station proposals will be submitted to members in due course.
