RANGERS are considering a summer transfer for defender Senou Coulibaly, according to reports in France.

The 26-year-old, currently on the books at Ligue 1 strugglers Dijon, has caught the eye despite his side's imminent relegation from the French top flight.

English Championship team Huddersfield Town are said to be monitoring Coulibaly's situation - as are Rangers, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

The report claims that the Premiership champions are weighing up an approach for the pacey centre-half, who was clocked running at 36km per hour last season, when the transfer window reopens.

Steven Gerrard currently has five senior centre-backs on the books at Ibrox, with Connor Goldson and Filip Helander the England great's first choice partnership at the back.

Jack Simpson was recruited from Bournemouth in January while Leon Balogun last week extended his stay in Govan after putting pen to paper on a one-year contract extension.

Croatian defender Nikola Katic hasn't played a minute for Rangers this term after suffering a cruciate ligament injury during pre-season but recently returned to first-team training, suggesting that he could make his return before the end of the season.
