A DRAMA group based in Govan has been awarded just over £6200 to work on a project to tackle social isolation within the community.

Loop Theatre, whose aim is to break down barriers for individuals with learning disabilities by creating an environment where anyone with additional support needs can learn, create and perform together, will use the money to sing to residents at Bealach House in Baillieston.

A group will perform at the homes of the service user at a safe distance. The application was approved by the Baillieston Area Partnership this week.

Following the decision Loop Theatre said they were delighted to have been successful.

Laura Edwards, artistic director, said: “This project lights up my life because there is just something wonderful about it. Everyone believes they are all helping each other.

“We feel we want to address the needs of anyone who is socially disadvantaged. Bealach feel that our guys add to their experience. We all think we are helping each other which we absolutely are it is just lovely.

“I am extraordinarily grateful for this funding because it very much is a service which is local to that area. When something is so focused I think you can really engage the community.”

During the meeting members were informed how Loop Theatre would operate and work with the residents at Bealach House, a day centre for adults with dementia, by singing memories to them while reducing social isolation.

Two members of Loop Theatre will visit with staff from Bealach House, services users at their home and will deliver a small performance of songs at their doorstep from a safe distance.

The second part of it is physical classes from September 2021 until March 2022 all Covid permitting.

If the sessions can't be completed by March 2022 the money would be returned to the partnership
