A NEW campaign to supply those in need of digital access with smartphone has been launched in a new scheme by 02 and Hubbub.
'Community Calling' will see 1,500 phones handed out in Glasgow to communities and individuals who have limited digital access due to factors such as lack of access and affordability.
Individuals and communities to receive the smartphones will be selected by Glasgow City Council and local community groups.
Both Hubbub and 02 are asking people to donate old smartphones to the cause, to allow the campaign to also target helping the environment.
Gavin Ellis, director and co-founder at Hubbub, said: “It’s been heart-warming to see the positive impact receiving a smartphone through the Community Calling project has already had on so many people’s lives.
"We’re excited to be working with O2 to expand Community Calling to Glasgow to get more people connected and prevent unnecessary electrical waste, which is a major contributor to climate change. We’re calling on individuals and businesses with spare smartphones to donate them to somebody who needs a device.”
