DAVID MCDONALD, the deputy leader of Glasgow city council has announced he is retiring from politics.
Mr McDonald, also chairman of Glasgow Life, announced he will be stepping down from his second-in-command position next year.
He was re-elected as Susan Aitken's right-hand man by SNP members at a local party meeting earlier today.

"It's been my honour to serve the city since 2007 and my home area of Greater Pollok," said Mr McDonald in a social media post.
"I'll reflect more about this in the near future.
"I've always tried my best for our community during my years in office but now it's time for a change and for someone else to take on the privilege of representing Greater Pollok."
He will remain in post until the 2022 council elections.
