A THUG who attended an illegal lockdown drinking session with apparent members of a Celtic 'ultras' group hurled abuse and spat at police.

Robert Gray, 36, attended a “large gathering” in Glasgow’s Queen’s Park on July 11, 2020.

Some were described as "wearing Green Brigade t-shirts" and having ultra groups’ tattoos.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Gray was later at a train station with the gang where he called a police officer a “hun b******" and yelled "scummy b******s."

Gray pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and assaulting PC Lynsey O’Donnell.

Prosecutor Claire Wallace said: "Gray was detained by officers.

“While he was being removed, he spat at PC O’Donnell."

Paul Kavanagh, defending, told the court Gray is not a member of any known football group.

He said: “He was in no way abusive at Queen’s Park and it doesn’t feature in the charge but gives some context.

“The group met up…drinking alcohol in the park which they shouldn’t have done due to the pandemic.

“He acted in a completely reprehensible way and he cannot believe he did as he has no recollection of it.

“He was not spitting or coughing directly on the police.”

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Alan Mackenzie.
