A TAXI driver was attacked by a thug who reportedly pursued his cab before pouncing. 

The 46-year-old cabbie was finishing a job in Wilson Street, Renfrew last week when he was assaulted, according to reports.

He was followed closely by the yob, who was driving a white Ford Fiesta before punching his victim in the chest, the Paisley Daily Express reports.

Luckly, he was not seriously injured in the attack but police have launched a probe into the incident. 

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Police enquiries are continuing into a report of an assault on a taxi driver in Wilson Street, Renfrew around 10pm on Saturday, April 17.

"The 46-year-old man did not require hospital treatment.

"The man responsible for the attack was driving a white Ford Fiesta.

"Officers are urging any witnesses, any drivers with dash-cam footage or anyone with information that may assist their enquiry to contact Renfrew Police Office through 101 quoting reference 4535 of April 17. "
