Friends of a woman who died after getting into difficulty in the water at Helensburgh Pier have raised hundreds for the grieving family.

Emergency services were called to the area around 5pm last night and recovered the body of the 25-year-old.

She has now been named locally as Charmaine O'Donnell from Glasgow.

Connect Community Trust in the East End wrote: "We have heard the sad news of Charmaine O’Donnell passing.

"Our staff have such fond memories of Charmaine when she attended sessions. Fond memories of her infectious laugh, personality and the endless hours we spent with her listening to Nicki Minaj. Such a talented, kind and positive person she will be truly missed by all here at CCT.

"Our thoughts and love are with her family and friends."

A JustGiving fundraiser launched for her family quickly reached its £500 target.

The fundraiser describes her "one in a million and loved by absolutely everyone".

"Charmaine tragically lost her life, and I've made this for anyone who would like to put a wee something if you want... just because it's Charmaine and she would've done the same for anyone.

"Absolute legend of a lassy, who will be sadly missed by loads, loved by so many too!"

Images from the scene showed police tape sealed off part of the pier amid ongoing enquiries.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, police confirmed.
